HiveMQ Edge

HiveMQ Edge is a lightweight, open-source, MQTT gateway optimized for Edge computing.

Use HiveMQ Edge to translate diverse industrial device protocols into MQTT for streamlined and reliable communication between your operational technology (OT) and information technology systems (IT).

HiveMQ Edge is packaged as a pre-compiled product that includes all open-source and commercial features. Activation of HiveMQ Edge commercial features requires a license key.
To download the latest HiveMQ Edge binary package or request a commercial trial, visit the official HiveMQ website.

The modular, secure-by-design HiveMQ Edge platform consolidates industrial workloads and helps organizations achieve smooth and economical data streaming from devices and sensors to cloud and enterprise systems.

HiveMQ Edge Architecture Overview

HiveMQ Edge fully supports MQTT 3.1, 3.1.1, 5 and MQTT-SN 1.2.
As members of the OASIS committee, the HiveMQ team was directly involved in the creation and release of MQTT 5.0, the newest version of the MQTT protocol, and is leading the development of the MQTT-SN 2.0 standard.

HiveMQ Edge Features

  • Pre-built protocol adapters to convert various device communication protocols into MQTT messages as well as templates to create your own custom adapters. The following adapters are currently available:

  • Support for all MQTT 3.1, 3.1.1, and 5.0 features.

  • MQTT over TCP, TLS, WebSocket, and Secure WebSocket transport.

  • Runs on Linux, macOS, or Windows. (Linux is recommended).

  • Open-source Java extension SDK with the following capabilities:

    • Authorization and Authentication

    • Client initializers

    • MQTT packet interceptors

    • Ability to build custom protocol adapters

    • Interaction with MQTT publish messages, retained messages, clients, and subscriptions.

  • Integrated MQTT-SN (MQTT for Sensor Networks) gateway that allows constrained devices to access the MQTT broker.

  • Bidirectional MQTT bridge communication with remote MQTT brokers.

  • HiveMQ Data Hub on Edge for schema definition, data validation, data transformation, client behavior enforcement, and REST API (commercial version only).

  • Offline buffering to store and forward data in case of connection failure (commercial version only).

  • Unified Namespace capabilities to prefix MQTT topics with a custom semantic hierarchy that adheres to the ISA-95 standard (commercial version only).

  • Enterprise support (commercial version only).
