Verify a HiveMQ Cloud Broker-WebClient Connection

As soon as your HiveMQ Cloud broker appears Running in Network, you can use the platform to quickly test that the broker accepts a client connection. HiveMQ Cloud brokers listen on port 8884 and connect to a built-in WebClient over WebSocket. The test requires that you provide credentials. You can use the platform to automatically generate temporary credentials for this test if you have not created them already.

Before You Begin

On Connect, in the Network view, verify that your HiveMQ Cloud broker status shows Running.

Steps

  1. On Connect, select your HiveMQ Cloud broker.

  2. On Broker Details, click Configure.

  3. Switch to Test your connection.

    • For a HiveMQ Cloud Serverless broker, select Test your connection.

    • For a HiveMQ Cloud Starter broker, select Troubleshooting, then click Test your connection.

  4. On Test your connection, test connectivity in one of the following ways:

    With autogenerated credentials:

    1. In Connection Settings, select Connect with autogenerated credentials.

      If the connection succeeds, the HiveMQ Platform displays The WebClient is connected.

      The HiveMQ Platform generates and displays temporary credentials.

    2. Copy and save the autogenerated credentials.

    3. In Autogenerated Credentials, click Close.

    With existing credentials:

    1. In Connection Settings, select Username.

    2. In Username, click an existing credential.

      If the connection succeeds, the HiveMQ Platform displays The WebClient is connected.

    3. If necessary, click Connect.

  5. Optionally, click Disconnect.

Verifying broker connectivity using this WebClient/WebSocket test only confirms the client-broker connection. A successful connection does not fully test communication between clients and a broker.
