Create Access Credentials

Access credentials authenticate MQTT clients with a username and password. For more information, see Authentication.

To open credential settings, follow the steps in Configure Access Management, then switch to Access Management.

The way you assign access to a credential differs by plan. The Serverless plan ties a permission directly to the credential. The Starter plan ties the credential to one or more roles.

Serverless Plan

The Serverless plan includes default access credentials.

  1. In Authentication > Credentials, click Add New.

  2. In Username, type a name.

  3. In Permission, select the permission level for this credential.

  4. In Password, type or select a suggested string.

  5. In Confirm Password, type the same string you entered in the previous step.

  6. Click Save.

Starter Plan

The Starter plan includes no access credentials by default.

  1. In Authentication > Credentials, click Add Credentials.

  2. In Username, type a name.

  3. In Password, type or select a suggested string.

  4. In Confirm Password, type or select the same string you entered in the previous step.

  5. In Role, type or select the role to associate with this credential.

  6. Click Save.

HiveMQ Cloud caches credentials briefly. Changes to a credential take up to 1 minute to become active.
